Riga, Latvia

  • Stayed July 2018
  • Accommodation: Naughty Squirrel Backpackers Hostel – this is a great party hostel in a good location.

I didn’t know what to expect of Riga, and visited with no expectations, but it’s the sort of place like Budapest that pleasantly surprises you. It’s a city that’s ideal for mooching around, people-watching in cafes, taking in the Art Nouveau delights (Riga has the largest and arguably finest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe) and late night partying. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and recommend staying a few nights if you’re doing the usual route of Tallinn to Vilnius or vice versa. Free walking tours are available with sites such as the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia and the Latvian National Museum of Art worth a visit. Try the local drink Black Balsam if you dare!
